VIFF is designed to be as accessible as possible. We welcome films from every corner of the world, shot on any device, in any language. Below are the essential guidelines to ensure a smooth submission experience.

Films must be under 30 minutes in length. Special categories may have alternate requirements — check category-specific guidelines.

Languages
All languages are welcome. Films must include English subtitles to ensure accessibility for our international jury and audience.

Filmmakers may submit more than one film across multiple categories. Each submission is reviewed independently by our jury panel.

Is the submission fee refundable?
No. All submission fees are non-refundable once payment has been processed. Fees directly support festival operations, theatre screenings, and professional jury evaluation.
Do I need a world or international premiere status?
No. VIFF does not require premiere status. Films and stories previously screened at other festivals or platforms are fully eligible for submission.
Can international filmmakers and writers apply?
Yes, absolutely. VIFF is an open international festival. Creators from all countries and backgrounds are warmly encouraged to submit. English subtitles are required for non-English submissions.
